IUSB-Mary Jane Kuntz Erler Education Scholarship

Patricia O’Hanlon-Handshaw (Donor) established a scholarship endowment to support IU South Bend students in honor of her mother, Mary Jane Kuntz Erler. To effectuate the intent of the Donor, the income from this gift will be used to support IU South Bend School of Education students pursuing an initial license to teach in P-12 classrooms. This includes both undergraduate and graduate students who have met the requirements for entry into the Teacher Preparation programs.

Preference will be given to undergraduate and graduate students with a demonstrated financial need. Applicants may submit a letter of recommendation and a 500-word personal statement to supplement their financial aid application. The statement should discuss reasons for pursuing a career in teaching, and the impact of receipt of the scholarship on the applicant’s educational attainment goals. In most cases, scholarships will be given out in an amount ranging between $3000 and $4000, depending on need. Scholarships of a lesser amount may be given out at the discretion of the awarding committee. Recipients will be selected by the scholarship committee of the School of Education. The scholarship is renewable.

This is not a university account (Treasury).
