IUIN-Preston Eagleson Award (Liberal Arts)

Overview:

This award is presented to an IU Indianapolis undergraduate student majoring or minoring in Africana Studies for an outstanding written scholarly contribution to the Africana Studies Program. The prize honors Preston Eagleson, the first African American to receive an advanced degree from Indiana University.

Recipients of the Award shall be enrolled undergraduate students majoring or minoring in Africana Studies and have made or make a written scholarly contribution to the Africana Studies Program. This award may be expanded to those enrolled in certificate programs in African or Africana Studies. The award is granted to the student presenting the best essay (5-10 pages) advancing our understanding of the African or African-American experience.

Eligibility:

Applicants must:

  • Be undergraduate students majoring or minoring in Africana Studies in the School of Liberal Arts at IU Indianapolis
  • Submit the required application materials indicated above
  • This award may be expanded to those enrolled in certificate programs in African or Africana Studies.

Awarding:

This scholarship will be awarded and disbursed in the upcoming academic year.

Renewability:

This scholarship is not renewable.
