IUI-Barbara White Thoreson Scholarship (Liberal Arts)

This scholarship supports Liberal Arts students who have expressed interest in serving others as teachers. The scholarship honors the memory of Barbara White Thoreson, whose devotion to teaching and to the students she taught inspired a love for learning in those who knew her.

Eligible recipients must be pursuing a degree in Liberal Arts but may also have a double major with education or be pursuing some other certification as a teacher.

Each application must include an essay that includes a description of the applicant’s educational program/certification plans/preparation for a career in teaching and addresses how this opportunity will benefit the student’s personal and career goals. (maximum 500 words)

Additional eligible expenditures may be included with this scholarship. Students may choose to use the supplemental money as additional scholarship funds or for activities which enrich the recipients’ educational experiences and further their goal of becoming a professional educator (activities may include, but are not limited to, study abroad, conference attendance, research projects, and funded internships).
