IUSB-Professor Ernest H. Gerkin Memorial Scholarship Fund

The Fund hereby created shall be used for the establishment, support and maintenance of (a) scholarship(s) to be known as “The Professor Ernest H. Gerkin Memorial Scholarship(s).” The scholarship(s) shall be awarded by a Committee composed of the Chancellor of the South Bend Campus, Indiana University, and two physical sciences or mathematics faculty members from the South Bend campus, such faculty members to be chosen by the Chancellor of that campus on an annual basis. The number and amount of scholarships to be awarded annually shall be determined by the Committee making the award(s). Such Committee may, in any given year, decline to make an award from this fund, if such Committee shall determine that there is no appropriate candidate, and in such event the amount that would have been awarded that year shall be added to the principal of this Fund. The scholarship(s) shall be awarded to undergraduate (part-time or full-time) students enrolled at the South Bend Campus of Indiana University, who are majoring in physical science or mathematics. The GPA of the recipients of the scholarship(s) shall be 3.5 points (on a 4.0 base) or better. The Committee shall consider demonstrated need of potential recipients as a significant but not necessarily determining factor in the award of the scholarship(s).
