IUIN-Clara Margaret Powell Undergraduate Research Fund (Liberal Arts)

Overview:

The award provides support to students in the Department of Political Science at the IU School of Liberal Arts in Indianapolis to encourage educational travel experiences and/or to complete undergraduate research. Allowable expenditures may include, but are not limited to, funding research, travel to do field work or for presenting at a scholarly conference or academic meeting, and experiential course work in diverse locales.

In order to receive the funding, applicants will:

  • Submit a short description of their educational travel opportunity or research project, provide the proposed budget or cost, and confirmation that they have been accepted to present at a conference, academic meeting, or field work opportunity or to do experiential coursework in a diverse location (if applicable).
  • If you are doing research:
    1. Identify your faculty sponsor/mentor.
    2. Write a minimum of one-two paragraphs about why you are interested in this project and why you believe you should receive funding.
    3. Indicate how much time will you devote each week to the project?
    4. Provide a brief project update to the scholarship administrator midway through the scholarship award period. At the conclusion of the scholarship period, the student will provide a two-page report describing the work completed and the skills learned and/or applied. The faculty mentor will also submit an assessment of the project results and impact.
  • Answer the following questions.
    1. How do you demonstrate intellectual growth in your study of Political Science?
    2. How might your study/knowledge of Political Science equip you to contribute to society and expand your worldview/life experience through this field of study after you graduate?
    3. How are you involved or engaged with the Department of Political Science beyond your studies?
  • Faculty Letter of Recommendation. (You are responsible to check if the reference letter has been submitted. Double check the email address you enter, if an incorrect email is entered, there is no system error. You will be responsible to follow up with your reference and communicate with them about the request for a letter of recommendation.)

Eligibility:

Applicants must:

  • Be an undergraduate student in the Department of Political Science at IU Indianapolis
  • Submit the required application materials outlined above

Awarding:

This scholarship will be awarded and disbursed in either the spring or summer term of the current academic year, or during the upcoming academic year.

Renewability:

This scholarship is not renewable.
