IUB-Spanish and Portuguese Graduate Travel Award Fall II

The Department of Spanish & Portuguese provides funding for Ph.D. students presenting work at conferences. Awards are made on an ongoing basis with preference given to Ph.D. students who have not received an award in the preceding year. Applications are taken as soon as you have received written confirmation of acceptance in a nationally recognized professional conference in the field of Hispanic literatures or linguistics. Completed applications must be submitted no later than one full week prior to travel date. Late submissions will be denied.

There will be four yearly deadlines for the application: September 15, November 15, February 15, and April 15.

Additional Notes:
Students are limited to one grant per calendar year for conferences in any of the following states:
a) Indiana: Amount of award, $150.00.
b) Illinois, Kentucky,Ohio, or Michigan: Amount of award, $200.00.

Applicants are limited to one grant every two years for conferences in any of the following:
c) Rest of the States except Alaska and Hawaii: Amount of award, $350.00.
d) Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Mexico and Canada: Amount of award, $450.00.
e) Other countries: Amount to be decided case by case.

  1. Spanish & Portuguese Travel Award details
    • List all awards received or applied for (IU or external) pertaining to this travel.
    • Please provide a brief description of the conference (organizational affiliation, host insitution, etc.)
    • Provide a short description of your presentation session.
    • Provide the title of your conference presentation.
  2. Please upload documentation that your paper has been accepted for the conference.
  3. Please upload, in a single PDF, the following information: 1) concise (1-2 paragraphs), descriptive summary of the conference presentation material (poster, paper, slides, etc.). Include a statement about the importance of the presentation (contribution to the field); 2: budget of planned expenses including conference registration feed, travel, meals, and incidentals; 3) if available - copy of the conference program with your name and paper highlighted.
  4. Please give the name and email address of a faculty member who will write a letter of recommendation in support of your application.
